- Best practices for titles, images, and descriptions
- Rules for pricing, variations, and bundles
Scope and Product Eligibility

These rules apply to all sellers listing products for the US market. Before listing your products for sale, be sure to review our Prohibited Products Policy and Restricted Products Policy.
Product Detail Page
The product detail page is where a customer first discovers a product. A product detail page should contain accurate, descriptive, and useful information for customers. This helps them make informed buying decisions.Best Practices
When creating product listings on TikTok Shop, it is important to provide accurate, honest, and clear information to enhance the customer experience.- Write clearly to help customers understand the product.
- Ensure all listing content, including titles, images, and descriptions, accurately reflects the product’s appearance, functionality, and effect.
- Use correct grammar, punctuation, and complete sentences. Incorporate essential punctuation marks such as hyphens (-), forward slashes (/), commas (,), ampersands (&), and periods (.)
- Create a new listing for different product versions, like a redesign or updated model. This ensures reviews, ratings, and order data reflect the correct item.
- Make only minor changes, such as updating images, price, description, or SKU (Stock Keeping Unit, a unique code for each product variation), if the product itself remains the same. These changes should still reflect the exact product being sold.
What to Avoid
- Avoid including any information that attempts to redirect customers off TikTok Shop, such as QR codes or website links. TikTok cannot monitor the safety or validity of off-platform activities.
- Avoid making references to "TikTok" without prior authorization, and avoid mentioning other e-commerce platforms or websites.
- Avoid using terms like "Best Seller" or "Trending Item" in your listings that are not descriptive of the product itself.
- Avoid including marketing material, promotions, or any other information that is not related to the product description.
- Avoid including vague or confusing pricing information in your product listing. For example, do not include unrelated, exaggerated, or unverifiable pricing references such as, "This eyeliner is now going for as much as a coffee!" or "We are having our largest sale ever!".
- Avoid providing misleading claims about a product's functions, effects, or materials. This includes using false advertising, exaggerated descriptions, or unverified before-and-after comparisons.
- Avoid making major edits that change the product being sold, such as switching the image, title, brand, or price in a way that misrepresents the original product.
- Avoid making false, unrealistic, or exaggerated claims in the product description.
- Avoid infringing on others' intellectual property rights. Ensure your product titles, descriptions, brand fields, images, and videos comply with our Intellectual Property Policy.
- Avoid using images or videos that depict prohibited themes, including:\n• Explicit or suggestive sexual imagery or activity\n• Negative body image or mental health\n• Animal abuse\n• Violent or shocking content\n• Hateful or discriminatory words and symbolism\nAll product listing images must abide by our TikTok Shop Content Policy and TikTok Community Guidelines.

Product Images and Videos
Product images are often the first thing customers notice, and high-quality images can set your product apart and attract more organic traffic to your shop. On the other hand, low-quality images may cause customers to overlook your product.Best Practices
Upload at least 5 images per product, showing it from the front, back, and different angles to give customers a full view. Make sure your images and videos accurately reflect what the customer will receive.- First image: Show clear front view of the product
- Avoid including any added text, graphics, or blurring effects.
- Additional images: Show different angles, features, and any included accessories
- You can upload up to 9 square images per product.
- Avoid repeating the same angle in multiple images.
- Size: Images must be at least 600 x 600 pixels
- Videos: You can upload 1 video per product listing (maximum size: 5MB)
- Brands: If your product is branded, ensure all brand identifiers (like brand names, logos, and slogans) are clearly visible in the images and videos.
What to Avoid
- Do not add any text, graphics, or watermarks to the first image.
- Do not add any marketing or promotion stickers. This may result in product rejection.
- Do not use black-and-white images.
- Do not use mosaics or filters (like contrast or blurring). These can mask brand identifiers like logos.
- Do not add another brand's identifiers to your product if it is not branded. If your product is branded, do not alter its brand identifiers.
- Do not use placeholders or digital renderings of a product.
- Do not use misleading images. Using misleading images may result in enforcement actions.
- Do not include any information that tries to redirect customers away from TikTok Shop.
Food Products
- Food products must be displayed with their respective food packaging.
Children’s Clothing
- Child models and mannequins may be used for children's clothing categories except for swimwear and undergarments.
- Children's swimwear and undergarments must be displayed flat on a plain background.
Product Title
When customers search on TikTok Shop, they find products based on how well the search terms match the product title. High-quality titles are essential for attracting attention and influencing buying decisions.Tips for Writing Product Titles
- Keep it concise and clear: Product titles should be between 25-200 characters and accurately describe your product.
- Include key details: Add important information such as:
- Brand
- Product type
- Key features or characteristics
- Size or quantity, if applicable
Best Practices
Here are other best practices to enhance your product titles:- Use correct grammar, punctuation, and complete sentences.
- Use numerals: "2" instead of "two"
- Abbreviate measurements, such as "cm", "oz", "in", and "kg".
- Capitalize the first letter of each word. Exceptions include prepositions (for example, "with", "at", "by", "to", "in", "for", "from", "of"), conjunctions (for example, "and", "or", "for"), and articles (for example, "the", "a", "an").
- Clearly state the quantity for multi-pack products, or products that contain more than a single item (for example, '10 ct' or 'Pack of 10').
- If there are several quantities of multi-packs available (for example, Pack of 6, Pack of 8, and Pack of 10), you can only mention the quantity that appears in the first image (for example, Pack of 6). You can mention the other quantities in the product description.
- Ensure the brand name is accurate and follows the brand owner's standardized format (for example, TikTok, not TIKTOK or Tiktok). The brand name must also match what is on the product packaging and labels.
Not using the official brand name may result in the rejection of your listing.
What to Avoid
- Avoid including your seller's name or URL.
- Avoid branding or references to "TikTok" (without authorization), or other e-commerce platforms.
- Avoid symbols and special characters (for example, ~ ! * $ ? _ ~ { } # < > | * ; ^ ¬ ¦)
- Avoid modifying or misspelling brand names with numbers, symbols, or special characters (for example, T1KT@k)
- Avoid modifying brand names by using alternative characters (for example, TikT0k), repeating or switching characters (for example, TiiiikToook, TokTik), misspelling or shortening them (for example, TikTock, TT), or splitting them using spaces (for example, Tik Tok)
- Avoid ALL CAPITAL LETTERS
- Avoid marketing material, promotions, or subjective comments that are not descriptive of the product itself (for example, "Best Seller", "TikTok Exclusive", "20% off", "free shipping", "NEW RELEASE", "low stock", "100% satisfaction guaranteed"). Including such terms may result in enforcement action.
- Avoid listing all product variations in the title (for example, "A1, A2, A3, A4, A5 available," or "XXS-6XL all sizes")
- Avoid repeating words or phrases in the title (for example, "Cotton Shirt, Soft Cotton Shirt, 100% Cotton Shirt")
Product Category
Choosing the right product category is essential for helping customers find your listings quickly. Accurate categorization improves visibility, searchability, and overall sales performance.Best Practices
- Use the product categorization feature in Seller Center to identify the most accurate category for your product.
- Enter clear product details in your title (for example, “[Brand] + [Content] + [Scope of Application] + [Product Type] + [Main Function/Feature]”) to fine-tune auto-categorization.
- If the suggested category is not right, manually select the category that best fits your product.
- Always select the category where your customers would expect to find the product.
What to Avoid
- Do not place products in unrelated categories, as this can mislead customers and negatively impact search results.
- Avoid misclassifying items (for example, listing a boy’s polo shirt under “Menswear” instead of “Kids’ Fashion”).
- Do not ignore approvals required for restricted product categories — certain products need documentation before they can be listed.
Consequences of Incorrect Categories
Misplaced listings may result in a violation ticket titled "Incorrect Category." When this happens, you will need to re-list your product under the most appropriate category before it can go live again.🔗 For detailed guidance, including restricted product categories, violation examples, and how to use the categorization tool step-by-step, see Your Guide to Selecting the Right Product Category.
Brand Information
When entering the brand for your product, it must match the brand’s official website, registered trademark, AND the product packaging and labels. This includes using the correct letter case and any special characters, if applicable. To help you enter the correct brand in the correct format, we provide a dropdown list of brands from which you must choose the right option.
If the brand name is not listed, you have the option to add it manually. If your product is not branded (no logos, names, or other brand identifiers), you must select "No brand".Take note:
- Selecting "No brand" when listing a product that is clearly branded is strictly prohibited. It may result in your product being frozen.
- If you add a new brand, ensure that:\n• It is a registered trademark or at least pending registration.\n• It is entered accurately, as it helps customers find your product through search and cannot be changed once approved.
What to Avoid
- When entering an existing brand:
- Avoid modifying or misspelling it with numbers, symbols, or special characters (for example, T1KT@k)

- Do not include promotional phrases like Top Seller, free shipping, best deals, or 50% off.
Product Description

- Descriptions should be at least 500 characters long.
- Write clearly and explain the product’s:
- Main features
- Uses
- Characteristics

- Product safety information and warnings, like California’s Proposition 65 (a regulation requiring businesses to provide warnings about significant exposures to chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm).
- Any other required disclosures per TikTok Shop policies
- Focus only on the product features. Do not include seller-specific information like emails, websites, or other products, as this may result in enforcement action.
- When mentioning your product's brand, ensure the brand name is accurate, follows the brand owner's standardized format (for example, TikTok, not TIKTOK or Tiktok), and matches the brand name on the product packaging and labels.
What to Avoid
- Avoid modifying or misspelling brand names with numbers, symbols, or special characters (for example, T1KT@k).
- Avoid modifying brand names by using alternative characters (for example, TikT0k), repeating or switching characters (for example, TiiiikToook, TokTik), misspelling or shortening them (for example, TikTock, TT), or splitting them using spaces (for example, Tik Tok)
Product Sizing
Clear and accurate sizing information helps customers choose the right size when placing an order. Providing this information improves customer satisfaction, increases sales, and reduces returns.Best Practices
- Upload complete and accurate sizing details on the product detail page.
- For fashion items such as apparel, shirts, bras, and shoes:
- Use the Platform Recommended Size Chart Template when listing the product.
- Include only measurements relevant to the specific product (see guidelines below).
- For non-fashion items, include the product's length, width, height, and/or volume when applicable.
- Clearly list size metrics that correspond to the product dimensions (for example, "XS - Waist 28-30 in, Hip 40 in"). Measurements can be a single value or a range.
- Use local units of measurement (for example, inches instead of centimeters) to align with customer expectations.
- Use images that accurately reflect the product’s true dimensions and scale.
Clothing Measurement Guidelines
When listing clothing products, focus on providing key dimensions that help customers select the right fit. Avoid including unnecessary measurements to keep sizing clear and straightforward. Below are examples of clear and effective size charts:Men’s Clothing
- Shirts: chest, sleeve length, neck (for dress shirts)
- Example: Chest 40", Sleeve 34", Neck 15.5"
- Pants/Jeans: waist, inseam
- Example: Waist 32", Inseam 30"
- Jackets/Coats: chest, sleeve length, shoulder width
- Example: Chest 42", Sleeve 35", Shoulder 18"
- Dresses: bust, waist, hip

- Example: Waist 28", Hip 38", Inseam 30"
- Skirts: waist, hip, skirt length
- Example: Waist 27", Hip 37", Length 24"
Product Variations
Product variations offer customers different options for a single item, such as size, color, or other variable features. By grouping variations under one listing, you make it easier for customers to compare and select the product that fits their needs. On TikTok Shop, each product variation is treated as an individual SKU. These terms are used interchangeably across Seller Center and in our policies.
Product variations consist of the following three components:
- Anchor Product: The main product that connects all variations in a single product page
- Variations (SKUs): The actual products customers can choose from, like different sizes or colors. Each variation has its own SKU.
- Variation Styles: The attributes that differentiate the variations, such as size, color, shape, scent, or flavor
Each variation (SKU) must accurately represent a unique option of the same product. Misleading or duplicate variations may be flagged as violations and may result in penalties.
Product Bundles and Multipacks
On TikTok Shop, you can sell manufacturer-created bundles and multipacks. These are pre-packaged by the manufacturer and come with a unique Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) for the bundle or multipack.
Manufacturer Bundles: A set of complementary products packaged together by the manufacturer with a single GTIN.
Manufacturer Multipacks: Multiple units of the same product packaged together by the manufacturer with a unique GTIN.
- Each product should have only 1 listing. Avoid creating duplicate listings for the same product.
- Do not combine standalone products into a single product listing, as this may result in enforcement action. Only manufacturer-created bundles or multipacks are allowed.
Product Pricing
As a seller on TikTok Shop, you are responsible for setting both the list price and discounted price (if applicable) of your products. Be sure to follow the instructions in Seller Center to input your pricing information correctly. What to Avoid
- Do not list prices or sale prices that deceive customers.
- Do not set prices that are significantly higher than recent prices on or off TikTok Shop. This may be considered deceptive pricing and result in enforcement action.
- Do not charge more per unit when selling multiple units than the price for a single unit.
- Do not use excessive or unconventional shipping fees, such as charging a shipping fee that is higher than the product price.
- Do not list products with significantly different prices (such as a $19.99 t-shirt and a $39.99 sweatshirt) under one listing. Each product type must have its own separate listing to reflect accurate pricing.
- Do not list variations that are not similarly and reasonably priced within the same listing. The primary price shown to customers must accurately represent the available options.
- Do not unreasonably raise the prices of essential goods during crises, emergencies, or high demand situations, such as natural disasters, pandemics, or other unforeseen events. This is known as price gouging.
