Misleading Behavior
Redirecting Traffic
Redirecting traffic is when a seller or creator encourages users to leave TikTok Shop and visit another platform (or website) to purchase products.
✅ Best Practices
- Encourage viewers to purchase through TikTok Shop product links in LIVE videos and shoppable videos.
- Boost engagement by encouraging viewers to like, follow, comment, and share. The more return viewers you have, the higher the chances of orders being placed through your promoted content.
🚫 What to Avoid
- Avoid prompts to purchase through external links, usernames, websites, social media, and messaging services.
- Avoid adding your contact information in your bio, video or product descriptions, or content.
- Avoid linking TikTok Shop products in your videos or LIVE if you intend for viewers to purchase through other e-commerce platforms.
- Avoid featuring online fundraising platforms in content, including screenshots, screencasts, URLs, QR codes, or weblinks of fundraisers.
- Avoid directing viewers to fundraising platforms in your bio or including third-party fundraising URLs in your bio.
The creator gives a demonstration on how to make a purchase on a phone from product listing pages of other e-commerce platforms. | The creator announces that the shoe being promoted in the video has a big discount. The discount is only available on another website and the creator mentions the website address. | The creator mentions that users interested in buying wholesale products can contact the creator through social media apps. | The creator prompts the user to click a link in their profile’s bio and the link leads to a shop on another platform. | "Scan this QR code to buy our product" |
Unoriginal Content
✅ Best Practices
- Ensure Originality. Contributions should be distinctive. Add a new perspective on the product verbally or through text.
- Feature the Creator. The creator should be featured prominently in the content. In stitched or duet videos, the creator must be visible.
- Vary Presentation. When conducting LIVE videos, diversify the presentation by changing the background and product display, rather than only changing clothing.
- Use New Scripts. Develop an original script for each video or LIVE video. Do not reuse scripts from previous content.
- Provide Unique Content. Each piece of content must be unique. Do not repeatedly use or repost old content.
- Provide Attribution. If using another person's content, provide proper credit to the original creator.
- Showcase the Brand. Use original videos and LIVE video content to showcase the brand, its story, and its products.
- Report Unoriginal Content. If other creators repost your content, you may report it through the Intellectual Property Protection Center (IPPC) platform.
- Collaborative Posting: Sellers and creators are encouraged to discuss and agree on who will publish the product promotion video to ensure the best collaboration results.
🚫 What to Avoid
To maintain the originality and integrity of your content, it is important to follow these requirements.
- Do not share content from other creators, media outlets, or copyrighted sources if you are not making significant changes or adding your unique perspective through voiceovers, text edits, or personal interaction.
- If the content contains a platform watermark, sticker, or logo from an external source, do not post it.
- Do not use copyrighted material such as clips, songs, sound effects from films, TV programs, music concerts, theatrical performances, or music videos in your content. There are some exceptions where this is allowed:
- Exceptions may be made if the content is used for educational or informative purposes, such as providing the viewers with new knowledge, skill, or commentary.
- If the content is used to describe a promoted product.
- If the content is posted with artistic additions.
- Do not pre-record your LIVE videos or insert any pre-recorded clips in your LIVE videos.
- Do not use recordings of an electronic device screen as part of your LIVE videos.
- Viewers may identify screen recordings by the presence of a phone status bar, computer task bar, or mouse cursor. Using screen recordings in a LIVE is prohibited.
- Do not repeatedly play the same video clips. After posting a TikTok video or LIVE video recording, do not repost the same content again.
- Do not use AI-generated audio or voiceover narrations in your LIVE videos.
- Do not post content that simply reproduces established trends that do not help to promote the product.
- During livestreaming, instead of simply changing your clothing, update your background setting and product display to create a more dynamic shopping experience for viewers.
- Do not repost your own content. Once you have posted a TikTok video or LIVE video recording, do not upload the same content again. Reusing the same material can be seen as repetitive and does not add additional value to your viewers.
- Do not use edits, effects, or filters to disguise copied or repetitive content.
- Note: Simply adding a watermark or superimposed logo to content does not make the content original and may result in a violation.
🚫 Examples of Unoriginal Content:
- Stitching a product review video without any new commentary.
- Uploading screen recordings from a movie or TV show and blurring the original logo or watermark.
- Using the stitch and duet function without providing any verbal or in-text promotion of the product.
- Changing clothes between LIVE videos without making any changes to the background setup or product display.
- Switching between a LIVE video and playback of pre-recorded clips.
- Recreating a video that directly mirrors the actions of another creator's content.
- Do not merge content that is not your own with your personal original content without permission.

- Using misleading visuals, descriptions, or guarantees
- Linking to incorrect, broken (for example, 404), unbranded, or mismatched branded product pages

Still Frame Content
Still frame content refers to visuals with little real-time movement or interaction, such as:
- Static images or screenshots
- Slideshows or screen recordings that lack original narration, interaction, or creative edits
- Animated graphics without live elements
- Content without live speech or human presence
✅ Best Practices
During a LIVE video:

- Include engaging and dynamic visuals, ensuring they feature your face and the physical product.
- Aim for at least 3 seconds of dynamic content without any still images or looping visuals to keep the audience engaged.
🚫 What to Avoid
During a LIVE video:
- Do not use non-real-time verbal interaction such as AI-generated voices, audio recordings, radio, or ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response).
- Do not use stills, slideshows, or scrolling images that cover more than 50% of the screen.

- Do not overlay product display page screenshots on your content.
When Posting a Video:
- Do not use still, looping, or scrolling images through the entire video without featuring your face and the physical product.
Misleading Content
Inaccurate Statements About Product Attributes
Examples of inaccurate statements about product attributes that are inconsistent with the product detail page, product packaging, or official product information include, but are not limited to:
- Content shows a dress available in 4 colors, but the product detail page lists only 3 colors.
- Content claims coffee beans are from Ethiopia, while the product detail page only states they are ethically sourced from Africa.
- Content displays shoes from Brand X, but the product detail page shows them as Brand Y.
- Content promotes Model A from Brand X, but the product detail page specifies Model B from Brand X.
- Content includes claims that are inconsistent with the product packaging or official product information (for example, packaging states a different ingredient, feature, or specification than what is claimed in the content).
- Content claims a facial cleanser removes dark spots, while the product packaging only states it cleans dirt and oil.
- Content promotes a product as waterproof or sweatproof, while the product details do not list these features.
- Content claims a product contains specific ingredients (for example, collagen, vitamin C, or hyaluronic acid) that are not listed on the product packaging or ingredient list.
- Content claims a product provides anti-aging or wrinkle removal benefits, while the packaging only describes basic cosmetic functions such as moisturizing or cleansing.
- Content fabricates product effects or capabilities that are not mentioned on the product detail page or product packaging, or that the product does not possess at all.
Avoid Misleading Price
When creators publish videos or conduct LIVE sessions, they should ensure that the prices promoted are accurate and valid. If a creator advertises a price lower than the actual payment price, it is a violation of our fair pricing policy. For example, if a creator advertises a cup at $8, but the actual price ranges from $8.99 to $20.99, it is a false pricing violation. To avoid violations, content creators should take note when publishing videos:
- Promoted prices must be accurate and not lower than the actual price a customer pays.
- Avoid using approximate prices that are lower than the actual price, such as promoting a $5.99 product as costing "$5".
🚫 Examples of What to Avoid
| Video shows "$2". At that time, the lowest price for all viewers was $7.9. | Video mentioned the price 'from 40-16', but at that time, the real lowest price for all viewers was $19.99 | Live shows the price of the bill $2.95. However, the real checkout price is $13.99 or higher. |
🚫 Avoid Expired Price
Creators are encouraged to keep advertised pricing and discount information accurate and up to date. When a promotion ends or a coupon expires, videos that still display the old promotional price may create confusion for viewers.
For example, if a creator posts a video during a Black Friday sale promoting a necklace for $10, and later the price returns to $15, the video may no longer reflect the current offer.
To avoid viewer confusion, creators are encouraged to regularly review videos containing time-sensitive pricing information and make updates when needed.
Note: If expired pricing remains in a video, the platform may remove the product anchor. This measure is intended to keep pricing information clear for viewers and is not a direct penalty.
🚫 Avoid Exaggerated Promises on Price
Creators should avoid using absolute superlatives like "lowest price" or "cheapest" to describe a product's price, as these claims are difficult to verify and can be misleading. Before & After Comparisons
Creators often use before-and-after comparison content (for example, skin tightening or hair growth) to show product results. But this can mislead audiences if not done carefully.✅ Best Practices
- Showing a before-and-after comparison of facial hair growth, while including a disclaimer such as “Results may vary” to clarify that outcomes can differ for others.
- Showing before-and-after skincare results while including a clear disclaimer and accurate timeframe (for example, “Results after 4 weeks of consistent use. Individual results may vary.”).
🚫 What to Avoid
- Showing before-and-after comparisons of skin tightening results that are beautified or enhanced using filters, editing tools, or visual effects.
- Demonstrating instant removal of eye bags or similar results after a single use when the effect is exaggerated or unrealistic.
- Creating artificial before-and-after comparisons by altering lighting, makeup, or camera effects to exaggerate the difference.
- Darkening or modifying the “before” condition (for example, skin tone or body area) to make the “after” result appear significantly brighter or improved.
- Promoting product results that go beyond the product’s actual functional scope (for example, claiming strong skin brightening effects for an exfoliation product).
Exaggerated Claims
Avoid claiming or visually implying that the product causes extreme physical or sexual transformations. This includes any claims such as:
- 🚫 Exaggerated Physical or Sexual Changes
- Breast enlargement
- Genital enlargement
- Increased wetness
- Sexual performance enhancement
- Improving skin laxity after weight loss
- 🚫 Time-Based Claims
- Disclaimers must clearly state that "results may differ from person to person" or "based on individual experience."
- Avoid exaggerated or unrealistic time-based promises altogether.
- 🚫 Unrealistic Product Functions or Exaggerated Effects
Examples include:
- Flashlights that can start a fire
- Toothpaste with whitening or bleaching effects
- Power banks that have instant charging effects such as "charges to 100% in seconds"
- "This cream will permanently erase wrinkles overnight."
- "This love charm will make your crush think about you non-stop."
- "Wear this bracelet to make other people trust you instantly."
- "Make someone fall in love with you."
- "These supplements will repair your DNA and reverse aging"
- "Spray this mist and people will obey your commands."
- "This charger can instantly power your phone to 100% in seconds."
- 🚫 Absolute or Overpromising Vocabulary
Examples include:
- "100% effective"
- "1-time solution"
- "Guaranteed results"
- "Works for everyone"
- "Permanent effect"
- "No side effects"
- "Permanent whitening after 1 use"
- "Instant results"
- "Fixes the problem completely"
- "Eliminates all wrinkles/spots/pimples"
- "Cures the condition permanently"
These types of claims overpromise product performance and may mislead users by suggesting results that cannot be guaranteed.

To protect users’ right to know and foster trust, creators are encouraged to proactively disclose content that is fully generated or significantly edited using AI.
✅ Best Practices
The following examples may be considered permitted uses of AI, provided the content is accurate and not misleading.
- Visual styles and effects
- Editing and quality improvement
- Translation, dubbing, and subtitles
- Copywriting and script support
- Product demonstrations
The key prerequisite is that all AI-related content must be truthful, accurate, and not misleading or falsified, and must not misrepresent the product (for example, “product not as described”) or constitute violations such as false efficacy, false endorsement, impersonation without permission, or misleading product representation.
🚫 What to Avoid
All AI-generated content must follow platform rules and basic principles. AI must not be used to mislead people, distort facts, misrepresent products or identities, infringe on others’ rights, or create false impressions.
The following practices are strictly prohibited:
- Misleading or Inaccurate Content
- Unauthorized Use of Third-Party Rights
- Misrepresentation in Product Promotion
When and How to Disclose AI-Generated Content
In accordance with TikTok's Community Guidelines on edited media and AI generated content, creators are required to clearly disclose the use of AI in their content to promote transparency and build user trust. Disclosure is especially important when:
- The video or audio includes synthetic faces, voices, digital humans, or highly realistic virtual figures;
- The content is fully generated by AI or significantly edited by AI in a way that changes its original meaning or context;
- The AI-generated effects are realistic enough that viewers may mistake the content for real footage.
Creators can disclose AI-generated content in either of the following ways:
- Common Violation Scenarios:
Fictional Professional Identities and False Personas for Promotion
Using AI to fabricate or exaggerate the professional identities of experts, doctors, scientific research institutions, and other institutions, to create a false persona that "endorses" a product's efficacy, deliberately creating a "professional" and "authoritative" image to induce consumption. Such behavior, especially in health-related fields like dietary supplements and functional foods, will be a key focus of governance.
Examples of violations include but are not limited to:
False or Exaggerated Product Effects Using AI (Not Allowed)
You must not use AI to make a product look more powerful or effective than it really is. This includes showing exaggerated effects or instant changes that are unrealistic and misleading.
In essence, using AI to make a product appear faster, stronger, or more effective than it actually is, is not permitted.
Examples of violations include but are not limited to:
- Unrealistic results
- Overstated performance
- Fear-based or shocking visuals
Misleading Product Representation Using AI (Product Not as Described)
Using AI to fabricate, modify, or exaggerate product displays so that the product shown in videos or images does not match the actual product being sold is considered misleading advertising and “product not as described.” In other words, if AI changes the product’s size, color, shape, features, or performance so that it no longer matches the real product, it is misleading.
Examples of violations include but are not limited to:
- Inconsistent Product Specifications
- Fake or exaggerated visual effects
