Order Packaging Requirements

imageOrder Packaging Requirements cover the packaging requirements for sellers on TikTok Shop, from seller responsibilities and prohibited practices to packaging and packaging material requirements. Following these requirements helps to prevent product damage during transit and customer complaints. These requirements apply to all sellers selling physical products in the US.
TikTok Shop and its logistics service providers, such as Fulfilled by TikTok, are not be responsible for losses, damage, customer complaints, chargebacks, or other after-sale issues caused by improper packaging, labeling, or product preparation.
As required by the Fulfillment Policy, sellers must comply with requirements found in this document when fulfilling physical products on our platform. Packaging that does not meet applicable requirements may contribute to customer complaints, after-sale disputes, chargebacks, product or shop enforcement, or package rejection by the LSP.

Packaging Requirements

Sellers using Seller Shipping, Collections by TikTok (CBT), or TikTok Shipping are responsible for packing and labeling products securely and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Sellers using Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT) are not subject to these packaging requirements.
  • Sellers must choose the right size and type of packaging for their products. Sellers must choose a carton size that ensures minimal space is left over after products are placed inside it.
  • Sellers must provide enough protection to the product to avoid the risk of damage during shipping.
  • Sellers must use proper packaging and insulation to maintain optimal temperatures during shipping.
    • Packages containing perishable goods must be clearly labeled to indicate their contents and handling instructions.
  • In the case of special packaging requirements for liquids and sharp items (such as cutlery, breakables, fragile, perishables, textiles, hazardous materials, batteries, and other similar items), sellers must follow the instructions of their LSP.
  • Sellers must pack their products in cartons if their preferred alternative packing option provides lesser protection, or when ordered by their Logistics Service Provider (LSP).
  • Sellers must ensure that cartons are taped and sealed properly to avoid loss or damage to the product while in transit.
  • Sellers may not use loose-fill of any kind, such as Styrofoam peanuts or shredded paper as dunnage.
  • Sellers must ensure that the cartons and packing materials (such as dunnage—filler material used to protect goods — or void fill) used offer sufficient protection for the products while in transit. The use of inappropriate packaging materials may result in customer rejections and chargebacks.
  • Sellers may not bundle multiple cartons together using bagging, elastic, tape, or extra straps.
  • Sellers must avoid using large staple pins or nylon fiber-based tapes as they are a potential safety hazard.
  • All dangerous goods or hazardous material products must use corrugate/cardboard for the outermost packaging.
All after-sale concerns raised by customers due to missing products, damaged products, damaged packages, defective products, wrong products, or similar issues will be resolved according to the applicable after-sales dispute escalation requirements. See Requirements for Aftersales Dispute Escalations for more information.
If a seller needs to support a claim or dispute involving damaged, missing, wrong, defective, or incomplete products, the seller may need to provide photo or video evidence showing that the product was packaged correctly before handoff to the carrier. See Customer Order Cancellation, Return, and Refund Policy for more information.

Third-Party Fulfillment Providers

Sellers using third-party fulfillment providers remain responsible for ensuring their products are packed and shipped in compliance with TikTok Shop requirements, Logistics Service Provider (LSP) requirements, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Sellers may use third-party fulfillment providers to pack and ship their items, provided they maintain ownership of the inventory.
  • Sellers must comply with packaging requirements set by their LSP, including special requirements for liquids, sharp items, breakables, fragile items, perishables, textiles, hazardous materials, batteries, and other similar items.
  • Sellers must only ship products that are permitted by their LSP and must check the LSP's latest terms, conditions, and policies before shipping.

Prohibited Packing Practices

  • Do not purchase products from another online retailer and have the order shipped directly to a TikTok Shop customer.
  • Do not include any product that was not purchased by the customer in the package sent to the customer.
  • Do not enclose messages asking for or incentivizing positive customer reviews.
  • Do not include products, inserts, content, or materials intended to draw or incentivize positive reviews from a customer.
  • Do not include unauthorized marketing or promotional materials, such as pamphlets, display materials, price tags, irrelevant stickers, or other unrelated materials.
  • Do not use loose-fill materials, such as Styrofoam peanuts or shredded paper, where prohibited by the applicable US requirement.
  • Do not bundle multiple cartons together using bagging, elastic, tape, or extra straps where this creates handling, scanning, or package integrity risk.
  • Do not use large staple pins or nylon fiber-based tapes if they may create a safety hazard.
  • Pesticides or pesticide devices may not be sold in anything other than the original packaging.
  • All dangerous goods and hazardous materials must use corrugated (cardboard) for the outermost packaging.

Packaging Standard

Sellers must apply the packaging requirements that match the product's category, condition, size, weight, and shipping risk. If a product fits more than one category, sellers should follow the stricter packaging standard.
