Video Diagnosis Seller Guide
What it is: A self-service video diagnosis tool in Seller Compass for US-based sellers. It helps you see where a shoppable video is stuck, what is already working, and how to optimize next.Resolve penalties first, then optimize: If a video has a violation penalty or an abnormal product status, its visibility is suppressed. Content optimization has no effect until these issues are resolved.Four steps to get started: Open the tab → search a video → read the diagnosis summary → work through the three modules (Overview & Penalty / Second-by-Second Dashboard / Content Suggestion), then re-check the next day.Scope: US site only; public shoppable videos with linked products published within the last 180 days.
The diagnosis produces two types of conclusions, matching the two types of action you can take:

Read this first (if shown): The video is currently under penalty and shows abnormal status, which is suppressing visibility. Please prioritize resolving this issue. Click View violation details to open the penalty drawer. If the video has no violation, this line is not shown.
Metrics dashboard: By default, 3 metric cards are shown (GMV, Video Views, Click-through rate), and other metrics are collapsed; all values are cumulative since publishing. Click any metric card to open a trend chart matching the selected time range. You can use the calendar to customize the range and aggregate by day.
Violations and abnormal product status: Click View violation details in the summary to open the drawer, where cards are shown in the order of violation penalty → abnormal product status:
Q: Why can't I find a diagnosis for a video I just published?A: Diagnosis data is produced on a T+1 cadence. Please check again the next day.
Q: What time range do the metrics cover?A: By default, values are cumulative since the video was published. You can use the calendar in the metric trend chart to customize the time range.
Q: A benchmark example video's metrics are lower than mine. Is it still worth referring to?A: Yes. It is a strong performer in the same category that uses that shooting technique. Even if your video is already doing well, there is still practice you can learn from.
Overview & Scope
Video Diagnosis brings professional video analysis capabilities to sellers. You can pinpoint what is holding back a video's visibility on your own and replicate the content approaches that perform well. The diagnosis produces two types of conclusions, matching the two types of action you can take:
- Bottleneck diagnosis: From the angle of governance penalties and abnormal product status, identifies what is suppressing visibility. Use it to clear the way.
- Success-factor diagnosis: From a content understanding angle, analyzes which shooting and presentation styles lift the video's metrics and, in turn, its visibility. Use it to replicate what is working.
Prerequisites
Please confirm the following conditions before you start. If any one is not met, the query may fail or a module may be missing:- Account: Seller Compass is enabled and your account is linked (authorized).
- Video: Belongs to your shop, is public, was published within the last 180 days, and has at least 1 linked product.
- Data freshness: The diagnosis report is produced on a T+1 cadence (local calendar day). Because competitiveness data is calculated in UTC-0, reports finalized before 00:00 UTC-0 are available at T+1, while later parts may arrive at T+2. Penalty data is served through a real-time interface.
- Entry point: Seller Compass › Channel analytics › Video & Photo › Video diagnosis tab.
Key Terms
Term | Meaning | Why it matters |
| Competitiveness | Measures how much improving a given metric can lift the video's placement in the recommendation feed. | It drives the TOP 3 key metrics that the report suggests for you. |
| Key metrics | The 3 metrics most effective at improving this video's visibility in the recommendation feed, such as CTR, like rate, or watch time. | Points to the directions you should improve first. |
| Content tags | Structured labels describing how a video is shot, made up of a dimension (e.g. shot type) and a tag value (e.g. close-up). | Turns "improve a metric" into concrete "how to shoot" actions. |
| Penalty | Violation records issued by platform governance that suppress visibility. | Must be resolved first, otherwise other optimization has no effect. |
| Abnormal product status | Blocking issues on the linked product, such as being removed from the shelf or out of stock. | Directly hurts conversion and visibility, and is surfaced at the very top of the report. |
Procedure Overview
The overall flow is a single main path: open the tab → search a video → read the summary (your decision starting point) → work through the three modules → optimize and re-check the next day. The three modules are independent of one another, but penalty and abnormal product status is always a prerequisite.
Step-by-Step
Step 1 Open Video Diagnosis
Go to Seller Compass › Channel analytics › Video & Photo, then open the Video diagnosis tab. This page replaces the previous single-video details page; the former performance and detail video lists are now merged under Video & Photo performance.
Step 2 Search a video
In the search box, enter a Video ID or video name (default placeholder: Input Video ID to Search), or click a video directly from the list. The system first checks whether the video is viewable, and only after confirmation does it open the diagnosis report.
Step 3 Read the Summary
This is your decision starting point. The summary area contains basic video info (name, ID, publish time, replay) and two key conclusion lines:Read this first (if shown): The video is currently under penalty and shows abnormal status, which is suppressing visibility. Please prioritize resolving this issue. Click View violation details to open the penalty drawer. If the video has no violation, this line is not shown.
- Key metrics prompt: For example, Likes, CTR, Comments are the key metrics affecting this video's recommendation visibility. Improving these metrics will help increase visibility. Clicking View details jumps to the bottom of the page and expands the Content Suggestion module.
- Color tags: Risk = has a violation; Can improve = no violation, room for improvement.
Step 4 Overview & Penalty

Violations and abnormal product status: Click View violation details in the summary to open the drawer, where cards are shown in the order of violation penalty → abnormal product status:
Card type | Shown info | Your action |
| Violation penalty | Penalty reason and optimization suggestions. | Click through to the Creator Health Center to resolve it. |
| Product removed | Product name, product ID, status. | Monitor and update the status of the linked product. |
| Out of stock | Product name, product ID, status. | Restock and update inventory promptly. |
Step 5 Second-by-Second
On the left side of the dashboard is a per-second data chart synced with playback (draggable progress bar); on the right is video replay. You can view up to 2 metrics at once (retention rate, likes, clicks). The system automatically flags abnormal moments and provides a conclusion:- Spike frame: Likes or clicks rise by more than 100% within one second. Example prompt: "A significant peak in [metric name] appears at second X. We recommend reviewing the video content around this segment and replicating the highlight." → Replicate this highlight.
- Drop-off frame: Retention rate is below 50% in the first 5 seconds, or the single-second retention rate drops by more than 30% after second 5. Example prompt: "The video's ability to retain shoppers in the first 5 seconds has issues, and the retention rate drops sharply at second X. We recommend reviewing and improving the video content in this segment." → Improve the opening segment's ability to retain shoppers.

Step 6 Content Suggestion
- Key metrics identification: Through competitiveness analysis, the report surfaces the TOP 3 key metrics most effective for this video (in descending order of importance).
- Content factor cards: Each key metric has a corresponding card. TOP 1 is expanded by default and the others are collapsed. Each card shows the tag values matched by your video (e.g. close-up), the current metric value, and the best-performing benchmark example videos in the same category that use the same shooting technique.

Step 7 Submit Feedback
After reviewing the diagnosis, use the unified feedback entry at the bottom of the page (Was this video diagnostic insight helpful to you?) to tell us whether the conclusions were useful, so we can keep improving.Checklist
After optimizing a video, use this list to confirm you have completed the loop:- Confirmed the site is US, and the video is public and within the last 180 days
- Reviewed the summary and checked whether there is a penalty or abnormal product status
- Resolved any penalty or abnormal status in the Creator Health Center or the product back office
- Recorded the TOP 3 key metrics and their corresponding content suggestions
- Referenced benchmark example videos and drafted a shooting plan for the next video
- Re-checked the same video the next day (T+1) to verify the optimization results
FAQ
Q: The report shows competitiveness is normal, but visibility is still low.A: First check whether there is a penalty or abnormal product status. When suppression is in place, visibility can be significantly lower even if competitiveness is normal, and can only be restored by lifting the suppression.Q: Why can't I find a diagnosis for a video I just published?A: Diagnosis data is produced on a T+1 cadence.
