Order Combination Guide

AI Summary

US Shipping by TikTok

Combined orders shipping
  • For TikTok shipping and CBT, the order combination does not happen automatically, during the RTS process. If there are orders that are eligible for combination based on our combination criteria (same buyer_id, same address_id, same Warehouse_id etc), then in seller center we will provide a combination recommendation and the merchant will have the option to accept or reject the combination recommendation. If accepted, those orders will get combined together and allow merchants to purchase one single label for those orders.
image
  • For FBT, eligible orders will be automatically combined for delivery.
  • For GS Direct Shipping, this feature is not available to sellers.
  • Once the orders are combined, in the Order Management page there will be a 'combined shipment' tag for those orders
    image
Split shipping of auto-combined orders
  • Sellers can click to view combined packages, remove certain orders, and then click "Save".
  • When sellers view the combined order list again, it will only show the orders that were left behind.

Notes for weight rules

Key Points

  • When packages are combined, shipping fees increase with weight tiers (actual / dimensional weight). Adding a lightweight item within 1 lb may only slightly raise costs, but crossing into the next weight tier can result in a significant fee jump.
  • Example 1: Actual Weight
    • One item weighs 0.5 lb. Adding another 0.5 lb item totals 1.0 lb (still within 1 lb) — cost increase is minimal or zero.
    • Adding three 0.5 lb items (total 1.5 lb) exceeds the 1 lb threshold and triggers a higher rate in the next tier.
  • Example 2: Dimensional Weight
    • One item measures 10×10×10 inches, actual weight 0.5 lb. If a buyer purchases two, total volume becomes 20×10×10 = 2000 cubic inches (>1728), so rates apply to dimensional weight. Even though actual weight is 1 lb, dimensional weight is 12 lb, leading to a sharp rise in shipping cost.

Our Recommendations

  • Consider actual and dimensional weight when enabling auto-combine. You may simulate shipping costs using the calculator on the logistics service page before activation.
  • Clearly explain shipping fee calculation to buyers during live streams to avoid unexpected high costs at checkout.

FAQ

  1. What are the order combination rules for US TikTok Shipping, merchant self-fulfilled orders, TikTok-fulfilled quasi-self-operated orders, and cross-border seller orders?image.png
The countdown begins after the buyers place their first order.
  1. When can I start fulfilling live orders?
    • TikTok Shop automatically combines all orders placed in the live room and calculates shipping fees based on the combined order. To optimize efficiency and reduce costs, it is recommended that sellers start fulfilling orders after ending their daily livestreams.
    • For sellers with 24-hour livestreams, it is recommended to process and fulfill orders every 6 hours.
  2. How does this feature work for different types of sellers?
    • Sellers of 4PL can enable this feature to view combined orders in "Manage Orders", view details of combined packages, un-combine or re-combine packages, and view buyers and print shipping labels.
    • Sellers of 3PL can enable this feature to view combined orders in "Manage Orders", view details of combined packages, un-combine or re-combine packages, and confirm shipping.
    • Fulfilled by TikTok sellers can enable this feature and the TikTok platform will manage shipping and combining for them.
    • Sellers using the desktop platform, open API, or mobile app can also use the Auto-Combine feature.
  3. Can orders placed by buyers through other channels be combined for shipment?
    • Free shipping on second order option: Only orders placed in the live room are eligible for this benefit and will be counted (orders from other channels are not supported).
    • Extra shipping fee option: Only orders placed in the live room are eligible for this benefit, but orders placed on other channels can also be counted.
  4. Can sellers ship during the livestream?
    • Yes, but we recommend waiting until the livestream ends before shipping, as TikTok's fulfillment system determines order combining rules and calculates shipping fees based on orders placed during the livestream. Shipping before the livestream ends may incur additional shipping fees.
  5. Can content creators use the package combining feature?
    • No. Content creators cannot combine packages because their livestreams feature multiple sellers/brands.
  6. Will buyers receive benefit notifications?
    • Buyers entering a seller's live room (not a creator's live room) with the combined package free shipping feature enabled will receive a notification about this benefit.
  7. Can sellers un-combine packages?
    • Yes, sellers can un-combine packages. However, sellers should be aware that un-combining will result in a shipping difference and sellers are responsible for all additional shipping expenses.
  8. What should I do if the orders I want to combine cannot be merged?

  1. What should I do if I think the shipping fee for the second order is high after combination?
    • You may check this on the Manage Orders page — if combined, the Combined label will be displayed.
    • If orders are confirmed as combined but the shipping fee for the second order remains high, possible causes and solutions are as follows:
ReasonSolutionReminds
If the delivery distance is long, USPS Priority Mail may be used to ensure on-time delivery when calculating the buyer’s shipping fee.You can check whether USPS Priority Mail is enabled in Shipping Settings → Delivery Settings. Sellers can decide whether to disable this service if delivery time can still be guaranteed.

The product weight or dimensions you set are large, so combined orders may fall into a higher actual weight or dimensional weight tier, resulting in a significant shipping fee increase.
Estimate shipping fees for different weights using the shipping calculator: Go to Logistics > Logistics Services, click the calculator icon, and open it under the corresponding warehouse tab.
Decide whether to use the order combination feature based on the actual weight and dimensional weight of items in typical orders.

Order combination rules

Background

To meet sellers' diverse order consolidation needs, adapt to the rich combination scenarios in LIVE rooms, and further help sellers reduce logistics costs, we have launched the Order Combination Rules. Sellers can set order combination conditions based on their own needs. Only orders that meet the conditions will be combined.
You can set rules across multiple dimensions, including:
  • Live sessions
  • Categories
  • Weight
  • Size
  • Number of items per package
NOTE:
Only newly created orders after the rule takes effect will be eligible for consolidation under the configured rules.
All new orders generated during the effective period will be impacted by the rule, so please configure the limits carefully to avoid setting them too strict or too loose. The Order Combination Rule is only used for combination recommendations in Seller Center. If an ERP system has its own order combination logic, the ERP rules will take precedence during fulfillment.

If the first order is shipped from Warehouse A and the second order is shipped from Warehouse B, the orders cannot be combined.
Orders belong to different fulfillment services
- If the first order uses Standard Delivery and the second order uses Expedited Delivery, the orders cannot be combined.- If the first order uses TikTok Shipping / Seller Shipping and the second order uses FBT, the orders cannot be combined.

Verify whether the order combination rules are triggered

When you click "Arrange Shipment" the system will display a pop-up indicating how many orders are eligible for combination and asking whether you want to combine them. If you choose to combine, these orders will be shipped together in a single parcel.
If "order combination" is not configured, or if parcels cannot be combined due to the rules you have set, there will be no combination prompt during shipment.
  1. Please verify whether parcels that fall within your rule scope show the order combination prompt.
  2. Please verify whether parcels outside your rule scope do not show the order combination prompt.
