When creating product listings on TikTok Shop, it’s important to provide accurate, honest, and clear information to enhance the customer experience.
Follow these guidelines to ensure high-quality and customer-friendly listings:
  • Write clearly to help customers understand the product.
  • Ensure all listing content, including titles, images, and descriptions, accurately reflects the product’s appearance, functionality, and effect.
  • Use correct grammar, punctuation, and complete sentences. Incorporate essential punctuation marks such as hyphens (-), forward slashes (/), commas (,), ampersands (&), and periods (.).
  • Create a new listing when introducing a different version of a product, such as a redesign or updated model, so that reviews, ratings, and order data reflect the correct item.
  • Make only minor changes, such as updating images, price, description, or SKU, if the product itself remains the same. These changes should still reflect the exact product being sold.
What to Avoid
  • Avoid including any information that attempts to redirect customers off TikTok Shop, such as QR codes or website links. TikTok cannot monitor the safety or validity of off-platform activities.
  • Avoid making references to "TikTok" without prior authorization, and avoid mentioning other e-commerce platforms or websites.
  • Avoid using terms like "Best Seller" or "Trending Item" in your listings that are not descriptive of the product itself.
  • Avoid including marketing material, promotions, or any other information that is not related to the product description.
  • Avoid including vague or confusing pricing information in your product listing. For example, don't include unrelated, exaggerated, or unverifiable pricing references such as, "This eyeliner is now going for as much as a coffee!" or "We're having our largest sale ever!"
  • Avoid providing misleading functionality and effect claims in product information or images, such as showing before-and-after comparisons or using false advertising or exaggerated descriptions.
  • Avoid making major edits that change the product being sold, such as switching the image, title, brand, or price in a way that misrepresents the original product.
  • Avoid infringing on other's intellectual property rights. Ensure your product titles, descriptions, brand fields, images, and videos comply with our TikTok Shop Intellectual Property Policy.
  • Avoid using images or videos that depict explicit or suggestive sexual imagery, sexual activity, negative body image or mental health, animal abuse, violent or shocking themes, hateful or discriminatory words and symbolism. All product listing images must abide by our TikTok Shop Content Policy and TikTok Community Guidelines.

Product Images and Videos

image
Product images are often the first thing customers notice, and high-quality images can set your product apart and attract more organic traffic to your shop. On the other hand, low-quality images may cause customers to overlook your product.
Best Practicesimage
Upload at least 5 images per product, showing it from the front, back, and different angles to give customers a full view. Make sure your images and videos accurately reflect what the customer will receive.
What to Avoid
  • First image: Show clear front view of the product.
    • Avoid including any added text, graphics, or blurring effects.
  • Additional images: Show different angles, features, and any included accessories.
    • You can upload up to 9 square images per product.
    • Avoid repeating the same angle in multiple images.
  • Size: Images must be at least 600 x 600 pixels.
  • Videos: You can upload 1 video per product listing (maximum size: 5MB).
  • Brands: If your product is branded, ensure all brand identifiers (like brand names, logos, and slogans) are clearly visible in the images and videos.
image
  • Don't add any text, graphics, or watermarks to the first image.
  • Don't add any marketing or promotion stickers.
  • Don't use black-and-white images.
  • Don't use mosaics or filters (like contrast or blurring). These can mask brand identifiers like logos.
  • Don't add another brand's identifiers to your product if it is not branded. If your product is branded, don't alter its brand identifiers.
  • Don't use placeholders or digital renderings of a product.
  • Don't use misleading images.
  • Don't include any information that tries to redirect customers away from TikTok Shop.

Product Title

When customers search on TikTok Shop, they find products based on how well the search terms match the product title. High-quality titles are essential for attracting attention and influencing buying decisions.
Tips for Writing Product Titles
  • Keep it concise and clear: Product titles should be between 25-200 characters and accurately describe your product.
  • Include key details: Add important information such as:
    • Brand
    • Product type
    • Key features or characteristics
    • Size or quantity, if applicable
If there are multiple sizes or quantities available (e.g., XXS to 5XL or 6- to 12-pack), you can only mention the size and quantity of the product that appears in the first image (e.g., 6-Pack and A5 size). You must mention the remaining variations in the .Best Practicesimage
Here are other best practices to enhance your product titles:
  • Use correct grammar, punctuation, and complete sentences
  • Use numerals: "2" instead of "two"
  • Abbreviate measurements, such as "cm", "oz", "in", and "kg"
  • Capitalize the first letter of each word except for prepositions (e.g. 'with', 'at', 'by', 'to', 'in', 'for', 'from', 'of'), conjunctions (and, or, for), or articles (the, a, an)
  • Clearly state the quantity for multi-pack products, or products that contain more than a single item (e.g. '10 ct' or 'Pack of 10')
    • If there are several quantities of multi-packs available (e.g., Pack of 6, Pack of 8, and Pack of 10), you can only mention the quantity that appears in the first image (e.g., Pack of 6). You can mention the other quantities in the product description.
  • Ensure the brand name is accurate, follows the brand owner's standardized format (e.g. TikTok, not TIKTOK or Tiktok), and match the brand name on the product packaging and labels.
What to Avoid
❗Not using the official brand name will result in instant rejection of your listing!
image
  • Avoid including your seller's name or URL.
  • Avoid branding or references to "TikTok" (without authorization), or other e-commerce platforms.
  • Avoid symbols and special characters (e.g., ~ ! * $ ? _ ~ { } # < > | * ; ^ ¬ ¦).
    • Avoid modifying or misspelling brand names with numbers, symbols, or special characters (e.g., T1KT@k)
  • Avoid modifying brand names by using alternative characters (e.g., TikT0k), repeating or switching characters (e.g., TiiiikToook, TokTik), misspelling or shortening them (e.g., TikTock, TT), or splitting them using spaces (e.g., Tik Tok)
  • Avoid ALL CAPITAL LETTERS.
  • Avoid marketing material, promotions, prices, sales, discounts or subjective comments that are not descriptive of the product itself (e.g., "Best Seller", "TikTok Exclusive", "20% off", "free shipping", "NEW RELEASE", "low stock", 100% satisfaction guaranteed", "Best Buy", "Freebie", "Giveaway").
  • Avoid listing all product variations in the title (e.g., A1, A2, A3, A4, A5 available!, XXS-6XL all sizes).
  • Avoid repeating words or phrases in the title (e.g., "Cotton Shirt, Soft Cotton Shirt, 100% Cotton Shirt").

Product Category

Choosing the correct product category helps organize your listings and ensures customers can easily find your products. It is essential for customer visibility, searchability, and ultimately, your sales success on TikTok Shop.
Tips for Choosing the Correct Categories
  • Understand Your Product: Consider your product's key features and functions to guide your selection. This helps to make sure the categories and subcategories accurately match your product.
    • For example, the Household Appliances category includes both "Large Home Appliances" and "Home Appliances" as subcategory options. "Large Home Appliances" refers to essential appliances for daily living such as a refrigerator, oven, or washing machine. On the other hand, "Home Appliances" is a subcategory for small and easier-to-move home devices, such as coffee makers, vacuum cleaners, or microwaves.
  • Leverage TikTok Shop Recommendations: Utilize the product categorization feature on Seller Center to help you achieve better product visibility with more accurate category selections.
  • Check Competitors: See how other sellers are organizing similar products. This can help you better understand what works.
How to Select the Correct Categories
  • Start Broad, Then Narrow Down: Begin by browsing the list of available categories in Seller Center. Start with a broad category, then get more specific by adding subcategories that best match your product.
  • Think Like a Customer: Consider how your audience would expect to find your product.
    • For example, if you're selling a cat toy in the Pet Supplies category, the subcategories that may apply include "Small Animal Supplies" and "Dog & Cat Supplies." The most accurate category for your cat toy product would be "Dog & Cat Supplies." This subcategory selection aligns with the customer's journey when they're specifically searching for cat-related products, making it easier for them to find your product.
  • Use Keywords: Type in keywords related to your product to find relevant options.
Selecting the wrong category may lead to a policy violation and negatively impact your Shop Health. Choosing the correct category not only prevents issues but can also improve your product’s visibility on TikTok Shop, making it easier for customers to discover your listings.
Best Practicesimage
What to Avoid
  • Use all applicable category and subcategory selections for your product listings.
  • Regularly check TikTok Shop Seller Center for updates to available category options.
  • Use listing attributes and descriptions like color, size, or brand to increase visibility within your selected categories.
  • Track your store performance in Seller Center to see if a category change impacts sales or visibility. For more information, see Product Analytics.
image
Product Qualification
  • Avoid guessing. Invest time in the process of accurately selecting categories so that your products are well-placed for customers to discover!
  • Don't misuse category selections to try and gain more exposure. This confuses customers, reduces trust, and violates TikTok Shop policies.
  • Don't ignore customer feedback. If a customer says that a product in your store is too hard to find, consider reassessing your category selections.
In order to sell certain restricted products within a particular category, you may need to provide a qualification document for each product you want to sell. This can be done by going to the Qualification Center and selecting Category Qualification. Then, select Add Category Authorization and follow the prompts to submit your application.
Product ComplianceThe Product Compliance feature helps you review and manage your product qualification status. If you've received a notification that a qualification document was rejected or needs to be uploaded, follow these steps to take action:
  1. Log in to Seller Center.
  2. Click the shop profile icon in the top right corner and select My Account, then go to Account Settings.
  3. Click on Qualification Center and then Product Compliance.
  4. Review the listed products requiring action and upload the necessary documentation.

Brand Information

When entering the brand for your product, it must match the brand’s official website, registered trademark, AND the product packaging and labels. This includes using the correct letter case and any special characters, if applicable.
💡To help you enter the correct brand in the correct format, we provide a dropdown list of brands from which you must choose the right option.
imageTo avoid intellectual property issues, ensure you have proper authorization from the brand owner or legal permission to use the brand name. For more details, check out our Brand Authorization article.
❗️If the brand name isn’t listed, you have the option to add it manually. If your product is not branded (no logos, names, or other brand identifiers), you must select “No brand”.
Take note:
  • Selecting "No brand" when listing a product that is clearly branded is strictly prohibited. It may result in your product being frozen.
  • If you add a new brand, ensure it is a registered trademark or at least pending registration. Also, it cannot be changed once it is approved. Make sure you enter it accurately, as it helps customers find your product through search.

What to Avoid
  • When entering an existing brand:
    • Avoid modifying or misspelling it with numbers, symbols, or special characters (e.g., T1KT@k)
    • Avoid modifying it by using alternative characters (e.g., TikT0k), repeating or switching characters (e.g., TiiiikToook, TokTik), misspelling or shortening it (e.g., TikTock, TT), or splitting it using spaces (e.g., Tik Tok)
  • When creating your brand name:
    • Don’t include these symbols in your brand name: ®, ㊟, ©, or ™.
    • Don’t use hyperlinks, domain names, or email addresses in your brand name.
    • Avoid using only special characters (e.g., !!!, @%!^#); there should be at least one letter or number.
    • Avoid including more than five consecutive digits in your brand name, such as 111111, +65-12341234, or TM0012345.
    • Don’t include promotional phrases like Top Seller, free shipping, best deals, or 50% off.

Product Description

Your product description helps customers understand what makes your item different from similar products. It provides more details that are not fully covered by the product title.
Best Practicesimage
  • Descriptions should be at least 500 characters long.
  • Write clearly and explain the product’s main features, uses, and characteristics.
    • Include accurate measurements, care instructions, and warranty information.
  • Use proper grammar, punctuation, and sentences. Break up the text for easy reading, and include images if helpful.
  • You can add images that show size guides, how the product looks, important details, or usage instructions.
  • Ensure your description meets legal requirements, including:
    • Product safety information and warnings, like California’s Prop. 65
    • Any other required disclosures per TikTok Shop policies
  • Focus only on the product features - do not include seller-specific information like emails, websites, or other products.
  • When mentioning your product's brand, ensure the brand name is accurate, follows the brand owner's standardized format (e.g. TikTok, not TIKTOK or Tiktok), and match the brand name on the product packaging and labels.
What to Avoidimage
  • Avoid modifying or misspelling brand names with numbers, symbols, or special characters (e.g., T1KT@k)
  • Avoid modifying brand names by using alternative characters (e.g., TikT0k), repeating or switching characters (e.g., TiiiikToook, TokTik), misspelling or shortening them (e.g., TikTock, TT), or splitting them using spaces (e.g., Tik Tok)

Product Sizing Clear and accurate sizing information helps customers choose the right size when placing an order. Providing this information improves customer satisfaction, increases sales, and reduces returns. *Best Practices

  • Upload complete and accurate sizing details on the product detail page.
  • For fashion items such as apparel, shirts, bras, and shoes:
  • For non-fashion items, include the product's length, width, height, and/or volume when applicable.
  • Clearly list size metrics that correspond to the product dimensions (e.g., “XS – Waist 28–30 in, Hip 40 in”). Measurements can be a single value or a range.
  • Use local units of measurement (e.g., inches instead of centimeters) to align with customer expectations.
Clothing Measurement GuidelinesWhen listing clothing products, focus on providing key dimensions that help customers select the right fit. Avoid including unnecessary measurements to keep sizing clear and straightforward. Below are examples of clear and effective size charts:
image
Refer to the examples below for recommended measurements by item type:
Men’s Clothing
  • Shirts: chest, sleeve length, neck (for dress shirts)
    • Example: Chest 40", Sleeve 34", Neck 15.5"
  • Pants/Jeans: waist, inseam
    • Example: Waist 32", Inseam 30"
  • Jackets/Coats: chest, sleeve length, shoulder width
    • Example: Chest 42", Sleeve 35", Shoulder 18"
Women’s Clothing
  • Dresses: bust, waist, hip
    • Example: Bust 36", Waist 28", Hip 38"
  • Tops/Blouses: bust, sleeve length (if long-sleeved)

    • Example: Waist 28", Hip 38", Inseam 30"
  • Skirts: waist, hip, skirt length
    • Example: Waist 27", Hip 37", Length 24"

Product Variations (SKUs)

Product variations offer customers different options for a single item, such as size, color, or other variable features. By grouping variations under one listing, you make it easier for customers to compare and select the product that fits their needs.
On TikTok Shop, each product variation is treated as an individual SKU. These terms are used interchangeably across Seller Center and in our policies.Product variations consist of the following three components:
  • Anchor Product: The main product that connects all variations in a single product page.
  • Variations (SKUs): The actual products customers can choose from, like different sizes or colors. Each variation has its own SKU.
  • Variation Styles: The attributes that differentiate the variations, such as size, color, shape, scent, or flavor.
❗️Each variation (SKU) must accurately represent a unique option of the same product. Misleading or duplicate variations will be flagged as violations and may result in penalties.
image

Product Bundles and Multipacks

On TikTok Shop, you can sell manufacturer-created bundles and multipacks. These are pre-packaged by the manufacturer and come with a unique GTIN for the bundle or multipack.
Manufacturer Bundles: A set of complementary products packaged together by the manufacturer with a single GTIN.
Manufacturer Multipacks: Multiple units of the same product packaged together by the manufacturer with a unique GTIN.
image
Guidelines for Listing Bundles and Multipacks:
  • Each product should have only one listing. Avoid creating duplicate listings for the same product.
  • Do not combine standalone products into a single product listing. Only manufacturer-created bundles or multipacks are allowed.

Product Pricing

As a seller on TikTok Shop, you are responsible for setting both the list price and discounted price (if applicable) of your products. Be sure to follow the instructions in Seller Center to input your pricing information correctly.
What to Avoidimage
  • Don't list prices or sale prices that deceive customers.
  • Don't set prices that are significantly higher than recent prices on or off TikTok Shop.
  • Don't charge more per unit when selling multiple units than the price for a single unit.
  • Don't set high shipping fees.
  • Don't unreasonably raise the prices of essential goods during crises, emergencies, or high demand situations, such as natural disasters, pandemics, or other unforeseen events. This is known as price gouging.
Unethical or deceptive pricing practices will result in violations and possible enforcement actions.
