How to add products to your shop

You can add products to your shop via your desktop, Seller Center app, and API.

Adding products to shop via desktop

  • Add individual products: List 1 product at a time by entering all relevant information yourself. A detailed explanation is provided in section #2 below.
  • Search keywords: Find a similar/matching product in TikTok shop and auto-fill its listing information, thereby allowing you to quickly list the product in your shop. For more information on this method, please refer to this guide: Add products to your shop via the Quick Listing Tool.

  • List with a URL: Enter a product URL from another website such as Amazon or Shopify to import the product's listing information. For more information on this method, please refer to this guide: List with a URL.

Adding individual products

First, click on the "Add new product" button to open the listing page.

Media center: Access on-platform storage space for pictures and video materials related to your products, saving you time when uploading product media to your listings. Learn more about media center.

Once you are on the listing page, to upload a product, you need to provide information in the following sections.

Basic information

In this section, you will provide product images, enter a product name, choose the category and brand that best suits your product. Hover over each attribute's "?" tool-tip to learn more about what is required.
Images: Upload images from different angles. The main image should show the entire product. Images must be high-resolution with dimensions: 600 × 600 px. Maximum file size: 10 MB (Up to 9 files). Format: JPG, JPEG, PNG.
  • At least 1 image is required.
  • A maximum of 9 images per product.
  • Avoid adding text, graphics, or watermarks.
  • Show different angles and key features.
  • Images must accurately represent the product.
  • Ensure no misleading or low-quality images are used.
You can also use the "AI Optimize" function to change your background.

Product name: Titles should be between 25-200 characters and accurately describe your product. Avoid unnecessary elements like your seller name, URLs, or marketing phrases. Include the brand, application, type, and product features. If you're using a brand name, authorization is required. Please refer to this guide to receive brand authorization: Guide to obtaining brand authorization. You can also use our name or keyword suggestions to improve your product name. Click on "Apply" to apply our suggestion as your product name. Click on "Re-generate" until you are satisfied with the suggestion.image
Category: It is important to choose the right category for your product to avoid mis-categorization, which leads to products not showing up in search results or enforcement actions, including removal of your listing. Some categories require extra approvals due to the Restricted Products Policy. You can choose to keep the recommended category shown by the system or choose the best-fit yourself by clicking on the drop-down and navigating to the right end-category. Please ensure your product matches the selected category to avoid violations.Please note, some categories are invite-only and require approval before you can list products under them. If a category is greyed out or unselectable, it is likely an invite-only category. To apply for an invite-only category, you need to send an email with the required information, including store name, store code, brand details, and product qualifications. Approval is not guaranteed and may take 8-10 working days.image
Brand: Brand authorization shows customers that your products are authentic. These products are more likely to be recommended on TikTok Shop. Apply for the brand authorization if your product is qualified. Please refer to this guide to receive brand authorization: Guide to obtaining brand authorization. Choose a brand from our recommendation or choose 'No brand' if it is not a branded product.image
(Optional) Attributes: Although these fields are optional, details like size, color, and brand help customers find and understand your product better. Key attributes, especially influence customer purchase decisions and help improve your listing quality. Consider adding them to differentiate your product from similar products sold by other sellers. image

Product details

In this section, you will provide product description along with a video, if available. Hover over each attribute's "?" tool-tip to learn more about what is required.
Product description: The product description generator uses the basic information you filled in the previous section to create content for this section. The more keywords and accurate content you provide, the more descriptive this output will be. You can also use add more keywords in the box and hit the 'Try again' button to create a new/different output. Once you are satisfied with the generated content, hit the 'Keep' button. This will paste the generated content in the box below. You can also fill in your own content if you do not want to use the generator's output in the box as shown in the picture. image
Video: We highly recommend including a video for your product including 1 or 2 selling points to attract shoppers. Videos capture attention and can lead to higher engagement and helps showcase features and benefits effectively. High-quality videos can also improve customer confidence in the product and drive more sales. The video aspect ratio should be between 9:16 to 16:9. Maximum file size: 100 MB. Format: MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI. If you upload more than 4 images for your product, we can also AI-generate a video for you. You can post it on TikTok from your shop account, so shoppers can purchase your product with a link. image

Sales information

As the name suggests, you will provide information on the product's price and stock in this section. You can add as many variants you may have and enter its price and stock information accordingly.
To fill this section, you will mandatorily need (for each variation):
  • Product identifier code: GTIN, EAN, UPC, ISBN, JAN, etc.
  • Retail price: This is the original SKU price before any discounts are applied and is displayed to customers on your product listings. Competitive pricing can enhance perceived value and encourage sales.
  • List price: The list price must be higher or equal to the retail price to avoid price confusion for buyers since it may be used for promotional purposes to emphasize deals or discounts offered on the platform.
  • Quantity: Available stock that is ready for sale.
You may also enable multiple warehouses, set custom handling times or activate the product as a pre-order, made-to-order or back-order here by clicking the checkbox. If you are adding a product with multiple size variations, you will see a 'Size chart' section wherein you can fill information on the measurements for each size. You can create your own size chart here or upload an existing image. When you create a size chart, the system also allows you to save it as a template for future reference.image

Product compliance

Please ensure compliance by providing necessary information if your product is or contains any of the chemicals, carcinogens, materials, etc. as listed in this section.

Shipping

The package weight and dimensions are usually pre-filled based on similar products on TikTok Shop. This would be the actual shipping cost if you choose 4PL for shipping. Please edit as needed for your product. Mostly autofilled (90% of the time). We should let the seller know that the estimated shipping charge is based on it (and the fact that it reflects the actual shipping cost if they choose to use 4PL). You can click on the 'Default free shipping' button if you would like to offer free shipping for your product.image

Review the quality of your listing

To ensure exceptional shopping experiences, TikTok Shop categorizes product listings into three quality tiers: good, fair and poor. A 'good' listing quality can help you with higher page views and a better custimer experience. By categorizing listings into these tiers, we aim to help sellers understand their current performance, identify areas for improvement, and ultimately elevate the overall quality of products available on TikTok Shop. You can review your listing quality as you fill in each section and accept its recommendations to improve your listing quality. Preview your listing

Right below the listing quality section, you can see a preview of your product listing as it appears on your shop and in a search result (toggle highlighted in red below). This is how your shoppers will see your product. Please make sure everything looks correct before submission.

Submit your listing

Once you have filled and verified the information in all fields, you can scroll to the top-right corner of the page and click on either 'Save as a draft' button to submit later or directly 'Submit for review' button to have your product published publicly to your shop (happens automatically when review is complete). You will see the products in 'pending review' or 'live' status on the Products > Manage products page. Please follow updates on your listings on this page after you submit.

General

  1. What best practices should I follow when adding products?
We've provided some tips when it comes to completing the sub-sections: brand, product name, product description, parcel weight , and package length below:
  • Brand: For branded products, you’ll need to upload related certificates as proof that you or your corporation is the Trademark Owner, a 1st Level Authorized Seller (authorized distributor), or a 2nd Level Authorized Seller (appointed reseller). If you've submitted brand qualifications, the word authorized should be displayed under the brand, and buyers will see the brand on the product details page. If you haven't submitted brand qualifications, the word unauthorized will be displayed under the brand, and it will not be shown to buyers.
  • Product name/title: The name should contain more than 25 characters (including spaces) — we recommend 80 or fewer characters as well as capitalizing the first letter of each word (except conjunctions, articles, and prepositions). A good product name typically follows this structure:
    • [Brand] + [Product Details] + [Application Scope] + [Product Type] + [Main Features/Functions/Advantages].

    • You can also use our name or keyword suggestions to improve your product name. Click on "Apply" to apply our suggestion as your product name. Click on "Re-generate" until you are satisfied with the suggestion.
  • Product description: We suggest placing your selling points in separate paragraphs, preferably with images. Avoid redundant information, and keep each selling point description to under 250 characters.
  • Product variations: Add as many variations you'd like, but for each variation, you will mandatorily need:
    • Product identifier code: GTIN, EAN, UPC, ISBN, JAN, etc.
    • Retail price: The original SKU price before any discounts are applied.
    • Quantity: Available stock.
    • You can also set customer purchase limits on each product variation.
  • Parcel weight: This section estimates the cost of shipping to a customer, so you can decide whether to join in a free shipping promotion or other campaign. The allowable parcel weight is from 1 - 220 pounds. Parcel weight is calculated using the following formula:
    • Parcel weight = Package weight + wrapping (e.g., box, bubble, or wood packing).
  • Package height, width, and length (in): Make sure the parcel dimensions are accurate as they'll be used to calculate the shipping fee and shipping method.
  1. What are product identifier codes?
Product identifier codes are part of a system of unique identifiers called GTINs (Global Trade Item Numbers). The most common GTINs used are Universal Product Codes (UPCs), International Standard Book Numbers (ISBNs), and European Article Numbers (EANs). The product identifier code you fill in should be registered with the GS1 database. For most categories, you are required to associate your products with industry-standard product identifiers to create new product pages and offer listings on TikTok Shop.
How do I find a product identifier code? Look for GTIN, UPC, ISBNs, or EANs above or below the barcode on the packaging or cover of your product. GTIN-14s appear on the shipping container.

  1. My brand is not appearing as an option. How do I enter my brand?
If the brand name does not exist in the brand library, you can take the following steps:
  • Click on the brand search box to enable the Add a new brand name button.
  • Upload the main image
  • Fill in the product name
  • Choose the category (eg. Shoes / Men's Shoes / Casual Trainers) and the page will show the brand recommendation

  1. How do I select the right category?
If you're unsure about which category to select for your product, you can try searching with keywords for suitable recommendations.

  1. What is image URL?
An image URL is a web address that specifies the location of an image, and must link directly to the image. It typically ends with or includes a file extension that indicates the image format, such as .jpg or .png.
How can I get the image URL?
  • For images stored on your computer: You can use the Media Center on Seller Center to upload product images. After uploading, you can copy the image URL directly. To learn more, please visit our guide at the Product Media Center.

  • For online images: Right-click on the image, select Copy image address/URL/location in your browser, and paste the URL where needed, such as the Image fields in template

  1. My image aspect ratio isn't 1:1, what should I do?
While we recommend uploading 1:1 images, if your image aspect ratio falls between 3:4 and 4:3, you should still be able to successfully upload it.
However, if your image aspect ratio doesn't fall within the 3:4 to 4:3 range and you decide to utilize this Excel listing tool, we'll automatically add white borders to your images, adjusting them to a 1:1 aspect ratio for user-friendly display.

  1. Is it possible to upload multiple products in one file?
Yes, you can upload multiple products in one file, but please make sure the file size doesn't exceed 5 MB.
