What is a Target Coupon?

A Targeted Customer Coupon is a seller-funded promotional tool that can only be claimed by specific customer groups and redeemed during checkout. We currently support two types of segmentation in the seller promotion tool: new customers & repeat customers.

  • Aid customer retention and encourage repeat purchases: Acquiring new customers is usually more expensive than retaining existing ones. By offering incentives for repeat visits, your store can increase customer loyalty and reduce churn rate.
  • Build loyal customers: Consistent positive experiences with your store help build brand loyalty and make customers choose your products over competitors, even if they offer similar products.

How to create a Target Coupon

Entrance
  • Visit Seller Center > Marketing > Promotions > Coupon > Create

Enter basic information
  • Coupon name
  • Claim period
  • Coupon validity:
    • Valid for X days after the date of claim (the validity period will start as soon as the coupon is claimed)
    • Specific period
  • Discount rate: Starting September 30, 2024, the range will be adjusted to 5% to 50%.
  • Eligible Customers:
    • All customers
    • New customers: People who have never made a purchase in your shop
    • Repeat customers: People who previously placed an order in your shop and made another purchase within 90 days.

  1. Choose the Coupon Type:
  • Amount off: Give customers a fixed amount off of their order
  • Percentage off: Give customers a percentage off of their order

  • The minimum discount value must be at least $0.50.
  • The maximum discount must be equal to or greater than the coupon value, calculated as minimum spend × discount rate.
  • Set the monetary value of your discount.
  • Set the minimum spend required for customers to apply the coupon:
    • Minimum spend thresholds for seller coupons are applied based on the order value after all product-level discounts are deducted.

      1. Can sellers create Target Coupons on TikTok Shop Seller Center App?
      No, we do not support creating Targeted Coupons on Seller Center. However, you can view and deactivate Repeat Customer coupons on Seller Center.
      1. How many new customer coupons can be created at the same time?
      The seller can set only one new customer coupon promotion for the same time period.
      1. Who will be able to claim a new customer coupon?
      New Customer coupons will only be shown to new customers who have never placed an order from the store.
      1. Can the new customer coupon be used for non-first orders?
      Yes, when customers claim the New Customer coupon, they can decide to use it on their first order or a later order as long as the coupon remains within the validity period.
      1. If customers return the order that they used the new customer coupon, can they use the new customer coupon again?
      If the order has been placed and successfully paid for, but then returned, the customer is no longer considered a new customer and cannot use the new customer coupon again. However, if the order was placed but not paid for yet, and then returned, the customer is still considered a new customer and can continue using the new customer coupon.
      1. If the customer claimed the new customer coupon, but it has expired, can they claim the coupon again?

      You can create an unlimited number of Repeat Customer coupons at the same time.
      1. Who will be able to claim a Repeat Customer coupon?
      Only repeat customers (customers who have previously placed orders in your shop and made another purchase within 90 days) will be able to see and claim the coupons. It is recommended to set Repeat Customer coupon in parallel with Regular coupons or New Customer coupon to ensure other customers segments are offered at least one promotion from your shop.
      1. Can the Targeted Customer coupon be used with other seller coupons in the same order?
      No, seller coupons from the same seller cannot be stacked. Customers will only be able to use one seller coupon per order, and if the customer has multiple seller coupons, the system will auto-apply the optimal seller coupon for the customer at checkout
      1. If I have already created a Repeat Customer coupon, will the group size of repeat customers be updated over time?
      Yes, the group size of repeat customers will automatically updated over time.
      1. If I have no repeat customers or very little repeat customers, will I still be able to create a Repeat Customer coupon?
      Yes, you can still create a Repeat Customer coupon.
