Gift with Purchase (GWP) is a Seller-funded promotion tool where they can encourage buyers to make a purchase by offering free gifts. GWP can entice buyers to meet a certain purchase criteria on a selected set of products (buy X items, get Y set of gifts). For example, it can also be centered around a specific product.

Enter GWP Information

  • Promotion name
  • Active dates: Select the dates and time when the promotion starts and ends (minimum 10 minutes, maximum 30 days).
  • Minimum purchase requirement:
    • Minimum purchase amount of $XX
    • Minimum purchase quantity of X items

  • You can select up to 100 eligible products in a GWP promotion
  • The eligible products chosen here cannot be selected as gift items in the next step.

Select Gift Items

Gift types

GWP promotions can be configured with two types of gifts:
  • For-Sale Gift items: Products listed for sale in the shop can be added as gifts in a GWP promotion and can be purchased as standalone products. Gift stock will be shared with the product's total inventory, claiming the product as a gift will deduct stock from the product's total inventory.
  • Not-for-sale Gift items: Products listed as not-for-sale in the shop can be added as gifts in a GWP promotion. Not-for-sale products cannot be purchased as standalone products and will not appear on the shop page, search or recommendations.

Gift item rules

  • The selected gifts must be a product listed on TikTok Shop with at least 1 unit of stock active and available.
  • The total value of each gift set can't exceed $75 USD.
  • Virtual bundles and pre-order products can't be added as gifts.
  • A maximum of five gifts can be added to each gift set.
  • Customers can't choose the gift items within the gift set. They will receive all gift items in the gift set if they meet the order purchase threshold (inventory permitting). If one or more of the gift items is unavailable, the remaining available gift items will still be awarded. Once all gift items stock is depleted, the promotion will no longer be available for customers.
  • Gift items may be fulfilled separately from eligible products. For instance, if gift items are stocked in different warehouses than eligible products, the eligible products and gift items may generate separate orders. Because sellers are fully responsible for shipping costs of gift items, sellers are encouraged to optimize their inventory to ensure adequate inventory of gift items in the same warehouses as eligible products to avoid shipping gift products separately.
  • Gift set quantity is the maximum amount of gift(s) you plan to offer to customers for this promotion.
  • Toggle on Limit to one use per customer if you want buyers to enjoy the GWP promotion only once.

Creating Not-For-Sale Products

If you would like to create a GWP promotion with a free sample or not-for-sale gift item, you need to create a not-for-sale product first. Not-for-sale products are only available as gifts through the GWP promotional tool. They can not be purchased separately and will not appear on the shop page, search or recommendations.
  • Visit Seller Center > Products > Manage Products > Add new product > Not-for-sale product

  • Fill in all the mandatory fields and attributes.
  • Click "Submit for review", once the not-for-sale product is approved and active, it can be selected as a not-for-sale gift item in the GWP promotion.
  • Filter "Sale Type" and choose not-for-sale to easily find not-for-sale products listed in your shop.

Note:
  • Avoid uploading the same product as a sellable product and a not-for-sale product, as there is a high probability of the product getting rejected during product listing moderation.

  • View: Click on the promotion name to see more information about it. You can also monitor the usage budget here.
  • Edit: Click to edit upcoming or ongoing promotions
  • Deactivate: Click to deactivate an upcoming or ongoing promotion.
  • Duplicate: Duplicate your past promotions for a faster set-up.

Shipping and Return of "Free Gifts"

  • The seller is fully responsible for return shipping costs of eligible products and gift items.
  • For a return request which involves all the eligible products in an order, any free gifts included in the promotion need to be returned together. If the gift is returned damaged or not returned at all, the Seller has the right to reject the order refund request.
    • Return of all eligible products — Buyer needs to return the gift with the eligible products.
    • Return some of the eligible products — If the non-returned eligible products still meet the minimum criteria, the buyer may keep the gifts.

Stacking logic

  • Gift with Purchase can be applied together with other Seller promotion tools, except Buy More Save More. Sellers will not be able to create GWP and BMSM on the same products during the same period.
  • Only one GWP promotion can be scheduled with the same eligible items at a time.

FAQ

  1. How many GWPs can be active at the same time?
Unlimited – Sellers can create multiple GWP promotion events. However, only one GWP promotion can be scheduled with the same eligible items at a time.
  1. How many eligible products and gifts can be set per promotion event?
Each GWP promotion can have a maximum of 100 eligible products selected in the eligible product pool and a maximum of five gifts items.
  1. Is it possible to set the total number of gift sets, and what happens if they run out?
Yes – Sellers can set total claim limit of gift items that can be awarded during the promotion. If some of the gift items have met their claim limit, that gift item will no longer be awarded as part of the promotion, though any gifts that have not met their claim limit will still be awarded. If the gifts items have met their claim limit, users will no longer see this promotion. Sellers can opt to increase the claim limits of gift items to keep the promotion active.
  1. Can Sellers limit the GWP promotion usage quota per buyer?
Yes – while setting up the GWP promotion, Sellers can turn on the Limit to one use per customer, and the buyer will be able to benefit from the GWP promotion only once.
  1. Can buyers enjoy more than one GWP in one order?
Yes – they can enjoy different GWP promotions in the same order.
For example:
  • GWP 1: Buy 2 items, get gift A
  • GWP 2: Buy 3 items, get gift B
  • A Buyer who purchases 5 items in the product pool will receive gifts A and B.
  • The eligible items from GWP 1 and GWP 2 must be different
  1. Can buyers purchase the same products to enjoy the GWP promotion?
Yes – buyers can purchase any eligible products added to the eligible product pool by the Seller.
For example:
  • GWP 1:
    • Tier 1: Buy 2 items (Eligible Products: B, C, D), get gift item A.
    • A buyer who purchases one unit of Product B + one unit of Product C from the eligible product pool will meet the eligibility criteria and receive gift item A.
    • A buyer who purchases two units of Product B, C, or D from the eligible product pool will also meet the eligibility criteria and receive gift item A.
  1. For the SKUs that are chosen as "free gifts" in the GWP promotion, when buyers purchase and order with GWP, will the stock be deducted from the total inventory in the Seller Center?

Once the not-for-sale product has been approved by the platform and has an active status, the not-for-sale product's SKUs will appear as a selectable gift item in the GWP creation page.
